EBONY BLACKSTONE

Accredited Exercise Physiologist
Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, Ebony Blackstone is an experienced Accredited Exercise Physiologist with over six years of clinical experience across a wide range of conditions. Ebony brings a deep passion for helping people improve their physical function, manage chronic conditions, and build strength for life.
Before joining Exercise Matters, Ebony's work included leading an ExPhys team in Brisbane, managing a busy clinical caseload and developing programs for adolescent athletes. Her work spans neurological, cardiovascular, metabolic and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Ebony broadened her expertise working in Canada, where she supported clients in injury rehabilitation, chronic disease management, and strength and conditioning. She now returns home to the Sunshine Coast, excited to support clients of all ages and abilities.

As a former national representative in pool and open water swimming, Ebony also brings valuable insights into athletic development and injury prevention.

LIAM TARR
(AEP, MESSA)
Accredited Exercise Physiologist
Liam Tarr is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and proud Noosa local. He brings a keen interest and strong background in injury rehabilitation, sports coaching, and athletic development, with experience across both musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation.
Liam has a particular passion for paediatric exercise physiology. He believes all children no matter their condition, disability, or injury, should have the opportunity to reap the benefits from physical activity. Liam's genuine passion is helping young people build confidence, capability, and enjoyment through movement.
Before completing his Exercise Physiology training, Liam worked as a kiteboarding instructor while pursuing his ambition to play basketball professionally. His own injury experiences, alongside a long-standing interest in performance and health, helped shape his pathway into clinical exercise rehabilitation.
Liam is known for his warm, approachable style and his focus on sustainable, evidence-based programs. Liam works collaboratively with clients to build practical strategies for the real world that support long-term progress - whether the goal is returning to sport, reducing pain, improving function, or simply feeling more capable day to day.

ANNIKA COYNE
B.ExSS (Hons) (Major CEP) AEP, MESSA
Accredited Exercise Physiologist
With 8+ years of experience as a registered exercise physiologist, Annika brings a wealth of expertise to the field of rehabilitation and strength conditioning. Her journey into Exercise Physiology began through her passion for sports, where overcoming injuries sparked her deep interest in injury prevention and recovery. Since then, her career has evolved into a special interest in injury rehabilitation / prevention and women’s health.
Annika believes that each client's journey is unique & that Exercise Physiology goes beyond simply prescribing exercises. She is passionate about educating her clients - empowering them to understand their bodies, and providing them with the right tools and knowledge to manage their health long-term, empowering them to take control of their well-being through evidence-based, functional exercise. Through tailored & evidence-based programs, Annika supports her clients in achieving functional outcomes. She is dedicated to motivating her clients to become the best version of themselves, both physically and mentally.

EMPOWERING WOMEN'S HEALTH
Annika is dedicated to improving women’s health - particularly in addressing the unique challenges women face at different life stages. From pre- and post-natal exercise programs to managing hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause, she focuses on empowering women through tailored exercise programs. Annika’s goal is to educate women on how movement can positively impact their health, reduce pain, and improve their quality of life. She understands the complexity of women’s health and creates a safe, supportive environment to help them to feel stronger, regain mobility, and feel more confident in their bodies.

DR SVEN REES
(PhD, AEP, MESSA)
Accredited Exercise Physiologist
Dr Sven is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with over 25 years of clinical and academic experience. Sven is the Director of Exercise Matters and Noosa Mind & Body Allied Health Hub. Sven holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). In addition, Sven has lectured in Exercise Physiology at a number of tertiary institutions across Australia & has published his PhD research in national and international journals.
As a clinician, Dr Rees has worked as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the New South Wales Institute of Sport, as a Sports Scientist at the Sydney Academy of Sport, and as an Exercise Physiologist in his own practice.
Sven has a vast experience working with a wide range of clientele ranging from Olympians, elite sporting teams through to individuals with chronic diseases & neurological conditions.

Dr Carl Thistlethwayte
(BSc, MChiro, FASLM, Dip. IBLM, CFMP, CHWC)
Dr Carl Thistlethwayte joins the Noosa Mind & Body team offering Dexa (DXA) Body Composition Scans and Bone Density Scans. Dr Carl is a Bone Densitometry Technologist, a Certified Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner, a Certified Heath and Well-Being Coach.
Dr Carl Thistlethwayte graduated with a Masters degree in Chiropractic in 2006 and enjoyed 13 years of “hands on” clinical practice prior to pivoting away from passive therapies due to a chronic repetitive strain injury in 2019.
Since then, Carl has adopted more of an active therapy approach inclusive of lifestyle medicine, health coaching and the GLA:D Back program.
Carl offers in depth analysis of your DEXA scan results and adopts a person-centered approach to support clients in co-designing health goals to facilitate sustainable health behaviour changes. He does this in tandem with the Exercise Physiology team at Exercise Matters. Carl has a keen interest in chronic musculoskeletal disease management. He enjoys working closely with GP’s and being involved in multidisciplinary, allied-health teams.
